Fred Hellmann shares his story and the story of his fellow Marines through personal letters he sent home to friends and family during the Vietnam War. Hellmann goes from being a young swim instructor in his hometown to a foreign battlefield, fighting for his country and surviving the horrors of war. After he returns home as a Vietnam veteran, he discovers the war has changed his life forever. Even though he left the war behind, his struggles with PTSD stay with him throughout his life.
